About Calabria

Calabria is located at the tip of Italy's boot & notably the most unspoilt region of Italy being a copious mix of ancient and modern with a wealth of unspoilt scenery. Approx. 500 miles of coastline boasts both sandy and pebbly beaches, coves and crystal-clear sea set against a backdrop of green, fertile mountains giving way to blue lakes and waterfalls.

Calabria has something for everyone; National Parks offering lots of outdoor activities, even skiing in the winter!!

Instead, those who prefer to learn about the region's past, Calabria, the cradle of Magna Grecia and land of ancient settlements, is full of splendid churches, monasteries, castles, palaces and towns where age-old traditions still survive. There are also many areas of archaeological interest and the Museum at Reggio Calabria houses the Bronzes of Riace.

Those who want more action can enjoy activities such as scuba diving, kite surfing, white water rafting, mountain biking plus much more.

With a warm climate, which extends for about 10 months of the year, those who prefer basking in the warm rays of the sun can dive into a crystal-clear sea and can choose beaches from the many towns scattered along the long Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts including Amantea, San Lucido, Belmonte Calabro, Soverato, Scalea, Fuscaldo and Belvedere Marittimo to name but a few.

The Calabresi are incredibly proud of their local cuisine with fish being a speciality together with a variety of salami, cheeses and spicing it up with the local pepperoncino. There are also foods grown specifically in certain areas, eg. Pomodoro di Belmonte, a delicious tomato particular to Belmonte Calabro.

Wine also features greatly with some great ones to chose from. Many food festivals and markets are hosted throughout the year to tempt the taste buds.

If this has tempted you to purchase your own small corner of paradise with a holiday home, renovation project or permanent family home, Calabria Property Services can help!
